There is a God - Why Antony Flew Now Believes in God

“I now believe that the universe was brought into existence by an infinite Intelligence and that this universe’s intricate laws manifest what scientists have called the Mind of God. I believe that life and reproduction originate in a divine Source. Why do I believe this, given that I expounded and defended atheism for more than a half century? The short answer is this: this is the world picture, as I see it, that has emerged from modern science."-Antony Flew

Your source seems to be polluted. At best, Mr. Flew has indicated that he might be considering a position of deism - an impersonal god who started the universe then walked away.

(I really don't see the point in deism, personally. Why worship or even acknowledge a being that cares nothing for you and doesn't even know you exist?)

This is the usual argument from ignorance. The god of the gaps. "Where science offer no explanation, there God be."

Flew is finding it difficult to imagine how all this got started without some sort of intelligence behind it. Join the club! Even atheists find it difficult. That is no reason to insert a god in the argument. Science has show over and over that a god simply is not necessary.

Let's assume it's true. Flew is now a deist. So what? The man is, what, 90-something years old? Can we be certain he is of sound mind and body? Will all atheists have the mental fortitude to deny the possibility of a magical sky-being all the way to the End? It is easy for me to say that I would never succumb to such irrational thinking but, on the other hand, my brain is fallible. I could go crazy tomorrow.

If readers are truly interested in his "conversion" (which really isn't much of one) then read more here: http://secweb.infidels.org/?kiosk=articles&id=369
